Individual or LLC: what a payment preference does not decide
By NUMARK.AI Editorial
Choosing Individual or LLC can help organize payment onboarding, but it cannot resolve every legal or tax question about work. A business entity is one fact in a broader arrangement. The choice should not be presented as a shortcut to contractor status, tax approval or payout readiness.
Understand the limited purpose
NUMARK.AI records an entity preference and, where relevant, a business name. That identifies the intended payment identity for later review. It does not establish that the entity is valid, that tax records match or that a worker has been verified by a payment provider.
An LLC can involve different tax treatment depending on its circumstances and elections. Do not select an entity merely because a brief claims it produces a particular tax result. Consult an appropriate professional about your own situation rather than relying on a marketplace preference field.
Protect sensitive tax information
Social Security and tax ID numbers belong in an established secure provider onboarding process, not ordinary profile fields or credential uploads. Do not send them in app messages, email attachments or screenshots to “finish” a pending setup.
A test payment connection is not verification of a real identity or tax number. Testing a form’s behavior and approving a real account are separate processes. NUMARK.AI’s current entity selection does not enable real payouts or validate an SSN or EIN.
Keep classification separate
Whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor depends on the facts and applicable rules, not only on the existence of an LLC or the label in an agreement. Neither party should assume a checkbox removes legal responsibilities.
Michigan is the initial operational launch market, with work activation and live payments still pending. Use the entity preference as accurate intake information, then wait for the appropriate legal and secure provider steps before treating payment onboarding as complete.
Before your next step
- Select the identity that accurately reflects your situation.
- Keep tax identifiers out of ordinary forms and uploads.
- Confirm classification and payout readiness independently.
